Edible biofilms and coatings; its characterization and advanced industrial applications

Edible films and coatings are layers of edible biopolymers (proteins, lipids polysaccharides) that can be used as an alternate for plastic packaging materials, because is causing environmental pollution it deteriorate human health when come in contact with the food product. Along their environment friendly nature they carry anti-oxidants, anti-microbials, anti-browning agents, neutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, colorants, flavors desired additives to product which prolong shelf life increase aesthetic properties generated separately by solvent casting extrusion while coating applied on spraying or dipping. The conjugation these nanotechnology (nanoencapsulation, nanofibers nanoliposomes) initiate a controlled targeted release added film coating. In this review article several novel have been discussed along applications fruits vegetable, meat poultry dairy industry.
